System Support & Maintenance

Support and maintenance are two terms that are often used interchangeably. The definition of these two words, however, is different. Support refers to a form of assistance in case of an event or an issue while maintenance refers to the process of repairing or upgrading a system, software or appliance in order to make it work better. Support is a form of assistance provided in case of an event or issue whereas Maintenance is the process of repairing or upgrading a system, software or appliance in order to make it work better.

Support is there to solve a problem or answer a question. Maintenance, on the other hand, is a procedure designed to identify and address any problems before they can manifest as an issue.As such, you can think of support as reactive. That is, it typically occurs only after the customer has already experienced an issue and has contacted the company for help. Maintenance tasks are proactive in nature; that is, they’re designed to identify potential issues before they occur and take necessary measures to prevent them from happening and/or reoccurring later on.
